Welcome to Nixon Elementary

Nixon Elementary will be this year’s host site for summer school, serving Barron, Bradley, Fannin, Nixon and Tom Lea. Many different programs for all age groups will be offered. Summer school registration cards can be obtained from the home campus, and need to be returned as soon as possible.

Reading Garden Dedicated

Nixon Elementary dedicated their newly completed reading garden to former student, Staff Sgt. Joshua Mills. Joshua, a Green Beret and member of the 7th Special Forces Group, died September 16, 2009 in Afghanistan while serving during Operation Enduring Freedom.

Dr. Nixon Elementary is proud to announce that Ms. Heather Perry is this year's Teacher of the Year. Ms. Perry has been teaching at Nixon Elementary for twelve years. She has previously taught P.E., second grade and fifth grade. This is her third year teaching third grade. Congratulations Ms. Perry!

Welcome Ms. Miles

Ms. Christine Miles has been appointed as the new principal at Dr. Nixon Elementary School. She has served as an assistant principal at Richardson Middle School since 2012, and previously worked as a teacher and assistant principal at Morehead Middle School and an English teacher at Irvin High School. She is a graduate of Texas Tech University and New Mexico State University.

Patience Beairsto Wins 2016 Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Patience Beairsto, a fourth grader in Ms. Ray’s class, who won this year's Spelling Bee. She will represent Nixon at the El Paso Times city-wide Spelling Bee later this year. Fifth graders, Carson Adams and Elizabeth Murphy, placed second and third respectively. Congratulations to all participants of this year’s Spelling Bee.

Congratulations to Ms. Debbie Gillespie, who was named Nixon Elementary’s support person of the year. Ms. Gillespie has worked as a paraprofessional at Nixon for 13 years. For the past eight years, she has worked in the school’s library. Her commitment and dedication to both the students and faculty are greatly appreciated.

5th Graders Participate in Hour of Code

Students in 5th grade participated in the national Hour of Code, a global movement that gives students an opportunity to learn about computer science. Students were introduced to writing code in a variety of fun and exciting settings. Students had the opportunity to write computer code using tutorials featuring Star Wars, MineCraft and Frozen.

Fifth-Grader Organizes Donation Drive

Justus Lopez, a fifth-grader at Nixon Elementary, organized a donation drive to benefit the El Paso Humane Society. He was able to collect numerous items including blankets, food, dog treats, and empty milk gallons. These items will go a long way and really make a difference at the shelter.

Sam's Donates Candy

Kathy Gonzalez, Northeast Sam's membership manager, donated 300 candy canes for students to attach to the homemade Christmas cards Nixon students made for soldiers in the Veteran's home, and homeless children in the child Crisis Center.
